Some people serve quietly for years without ever asking for recognition. For Martha Frank, helping others has simply become a way of life. That spirit of generosity and faith is exactly why Martha was selected as the April recipient of the Freudenthal Home-Based Healthcare Aging Well Award.
Martha has spent years volunteering with the House of Bread ministry at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, helping provide food and assistance to members of the community in need. What began as occasional volunteer work gradually became a major part of her life and weekly routine. “I like to help people,” Martha said with a laugh during her interview.
Three days a week — and often more — Martha arrives early to prepare food bags, organize supplies, answer phone calls, and help ensure the ministry runs smoothly for the many families who depend on it. “We know that our clients, when they come, they need help and they need a friendly face,” Martha shared. “They don’t want to be looked down on.”
“We know that our clients, when they come, they need help and they need a friendly face...”

Before dedicating herself to the House of Bread ministry, Martha spent more than 32 years working at Wire Rope in St. Joseph. She also spent many years caring for both her mother and her aunt after the loss of their husbands. “It’s a full-time job,” Martha said about being a caregiver.
Her life has been deeply rooted in faith, family, and service. Along with her volunteer work, Martha serves as a Eucharistic Minister, lector, and church volunteer through various ministries at St. Francis Xavier.
When asked what “aging well” means to her, Martha smiled and said: “Means I’m getting older, but I’m still going… like the Energizer Bunny.” For Martha, staying active through volunteering has provided purpose, connection, and perspective. “Volunteering is great. It keeps you active, keeps you moving, keeps your mind going,” she said.

Freudenthal Home-Based Healthcare is honored to recognize Martha Frank for her servant’s heart, faithful dedication, and positive impact on the St. Joseph community.
