At 92 years young, Erma Snodgrass proves that age is no reason to slow down. After a long and fulfilling career in education, Erma decided retirement wasn’t quite for her. She’s now spent 24 years working at her local Fast Gas station on Highway 36, where she’s become a familiar and friendly face to countless customers.
Before joining Fast Gas, Erma served as the Daycare Director at Cameron Medical Center and worked as a teacher in Kansas, dedicating her life to caring for and shaping others. When she retired the first time, she quickly realized she wasn’t ready to sit still.
“I couldn’t stand just staying at home,” Erma said. “I know that when you retire and just sit down and don’t do anything, your mind and body just deteriorates.”
That spirit of purpose and perseverance shines through in everything Erma does. Even after losing her husband seven years ago, she continues to find joy in her work and in the people she serves. Her coworkers say she’s one of the most dependable, trusted employees at the station—and customers agree that her smile is often the highlight of their day.
Erma’s story reminds us that staying active, engaged, and connected to others is one of the most powerful ways to age well. Her love for life and community inspires everyone who crosses her path.
Congratulations, Erma Snodgrass, Freudenthal’s October Aging Well Award winner!
